MEDIATION SERVICES
BOARD & NONPROFIT FACILITATION
Why choose mediation?
Mediation offers an empowered, confidential, and cost-effective pathway to resolution. With expert and impartial facilitators focused on communication and negotiation, mediation can provide mutually agreeable solutions and outcomes that respect the dignity and needs of all parties.
Mediation Services
As an experienced litigator for over 28.5 years, with a rich background in advocacy, I bring a deep understanding of the intricacies involved in personal injury and civil litigation cases. My practice area for mediation includes torts, accident benefits, disability claims, life insurance, professional liability, contract and business disputes, and employment matters. I help the parties navigate complex disputes with empathy, integrity, and a focus on achieving fair resolutions.
The Benefits of Mediation
Efficient and Cost-Effective
Time and resources are valuable. Mediation recognizes this by offering a more efficient and cost-effective alternative to traditional litigation. With fewer formal procedures and a faster pathway to resolution, mediation reduces both financial and emotional strain.
Preserving Relationships
Unlike the adversarial nature of litigation, mediation fosters a constructive dialogue that not only aims to resolve the dispute but also promotes mutual respect and understanding.
Empowerment
Mediation empowers you to take control of the outcome, allowing for decisions that truly reflect your needs and interests. This voluntary process ensures that all parties are engaged and committed to crafting a collaborative solution, steering away from the uncertainty of court decisions.
Customized and Flexible
Every conflict is unique, and mediation excels in crafting tailored solutions that address the specific needs and interests of all parties involved. This flexibility allows for creative and sustainable outcomes that might not be possible in a court setting.
Confidential and Private
The essence of mediation lies in its confidential nature, providing a secure environment where sensitive issues can be discussed openly. This confidentiality extends beyond the mediation room, ensuring that discussions are protected and remain private, fostering a safe space for honest communication.
Online Mediation
This approach utilizes virtual meetings and document sharing, ensuring that resolution is just a click away, without compromising the effectiveness of the mediation process. It is cost-effective and efficient, particularly if the parties are located in different areas.
Board & Nonprofit Facilitation
Boards and nonprofit organizations carry significant responsibilities — balancing governance, mission, limited resources, and the needs of the communities they serve. These pressures often bring challenging conversations, competing priorities, and moments where a neutral presence makes all the difference.
Drawing on nearly three decades as a litigator, extensive mediation training, and formal governance education through the Rotman School of Management’s Governance Essentials Program for Not-for-Profit Directors (2014), I help boards and leadership teams navigate difficult conversations with clarity, steadiness, and structure.
My facilitation approach is trauma-informed, grounded in respect, and designed to help people engage constructively, even when the issues are complex or emotionally charged.
I’ve served in leadership roles on several boards — including as President of the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association; Governor of the American Association for Justice; Director of The Advocates’ Society; Chair of the Share the Road Cycling Coalition; and Director of Orchestra London (Ontario). These experiences give me a deep understanding of board dynamics, governance pressures, and the realities of leading organizations through transition and conflict.
I am particularly passionate about supporting female-led organizations and teams. Women in leadership often navigate unique systemic pressures, expectations, and communication challenges, and I strive to create facilitation environments where their voices are supported, respected, and fully heard.
How I Support Boards and Nonprofits
I provide facilitation and neutral support for:
Strategic planning
Board retreats
Leadership alignment
Governance discussions
Conflict or tension between directors
Difficult or sensitive conversations
Organizational realignment or cultural reset
High-stake or emotionally charged meetings
Sessions can be delivered virtually or in-person across Canada, including northern and remote communities.
If your board or leadership team is preparing for strategic discussions or facing challenging dynamics, I’d be pleased to help create a supportive, productive space for the work ahead.
About Me
With more than 28 years in litigation, I draw on a wide range of legal and leadership experience, together with a long-standing commitment to service and community work. Over the years, I’ve learned that people make progress when they feel heard, respected, and supported — and my work now centres on creating the space for those conversations to happen.
In 2017, I completed the Mediating Disputes program at the Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law School – Harvard Negotiation Institute. In 2024, I obtained my Mediation Certificate from the ADR Learning Institute. This training, combined with decades of practical experience, informs my approach to conflict: steady, thoughtful, trauma-aware, and grounded in both curiosity and clarity.
I am a member of the ADR Institute of Ontario (ADRIO) and the ADR Institute of Canada (ADRIC).
Giving back to the profession and the broader community has always been important to me. I have served as President of the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association, as a Governor of the American Association for Justice, as a Director of The Advocates’ Society, and as Chair of the Share the Road Cycling Coalition. I’ve also served on the Board of Orchestra London and the Metropolitan Opera Foundation Board, and frequently speak at continuing legal education programs across North America.
I bring this breadth of experience to my mediation and facilitation work, helping people navigate difficult conversations and move toward solutions that feel fair, practical, and respectful.
Outside of my professional life, I write fiction, read constantly, swim, cycle, and spend as much time as possible on the beach with my husband, Jason.
